The Miz Has Mixed Feelings On WWE WrestleMania 27 Main Event Victory
WWE WrestleMania XXVII marked the first time The Miz ever wrestled in the show's main event, which saw the then-WWE Champion put his title on the line against John Cena. Luckily for Miz, he got help from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, which set up the WrestleMania XXVIII "Once In A Lifetime" match for the following year.
Despite the match being a milestone for his career and setting up one of the biggest WrestleMania main events of recent history, Miz has mixed feelings on the match today. "Main event, sold out! Georgia Dome, 65,000 people! And, they told me: 'Mike, you're gonna have pyro.' I was like: 'What? I never get pyro; I never get anything!'" he recalled during an appearance on WWE Vault. Miz noted that he had low expectations for his WWE presentation at the time, as it even took a while to land on music he approved of. "But now I'm getting pyro?"
Ultimately, Miz's pyro wasn't what he expected, but this was nowhere near what actually made the night uncomfortable to look back on for him. After taking a spear onto concrete, Miz's head was accidentally slammed into the ground, resulting in a concussion. "I wanted to be tackled into an audience, I've never seen that happen! And you know I was like, 'Do we have any extras? Can we just put seats there?' And they were like, 'Well, we can't do that.' I was like, 'You know, just spear me onto the thing!' That was a dumb move, because I got knocked out, do not remember any of this!"
After hitting his head, Miz still finished the match, largely due to the help of Cena, The Rock, and referee Mike Chioda. "I don't like watching that match, even though, people always ask, 'What's your favorite match?' It's like, that one [WM XVII], and they're like 'Why?' Because it's the main event of WrestleMania and not everyone gets to main event WrestleMania," he stated.
