Jerry Lynn Says Jim Cornette Pitched Him On Leading WWE Attitude Era Faction
After becoming one of the standouts of ECW in the 1990s, Jerry Lynn had a brief stint in WWE in 2001, wrestling a few dozen matches for the company before returning to the independent scene. Prior to that run, however, Lynn was nearly recruited to WWE by Jim Cornette during his time there, with Lynn revealing on "What Happened When" that he was almost the leader of a memorable stable.
"Jim was trying to bring me in — it's funny — he was trying to bring me into WWF to be in The Brood before they brought in Gangrel, but I was too small," Lynn said. "Which I understand. It was still a majority big man's business, you know?"
Beyond that interaction, Lynn said that his history with Cornette was limited, though he did learn a lot from the former manager and booker. "What a mind for the business," Lynn stated of Cornette.
As indicated by Lynn, it was Gangrel who wound up leading The Brood alongside Edge and Christian, with the group forming in late 1998 before joining the Ministry of Darkness in early 1999 and breaking up later that year. Briefly, a version of the faction referred to as The New Brood featured Gangrel and the Hardy Boyz, though that iteration had an even shorter lifespan.
Meanwhile, Lynn went on to wrestle in the early years on TNA (while it was still under the NWA banner) as well as appearing in Ring of Honor and many other independent promotions, until his in-ring retirement in 2013. These days, Lynn works in AEW as a coach and producer.
