Jeff Jarrett Loved Seeing AEW Try 'New Things' At WrestleDream
AEW's Jeff Jarrett was pleased to see the promotion experiment with new ideas at the WrestleDream pay-per-view.
WrestleDream's main event saw the debut of the Clockwork Carnage match, in which Will Ospreay retained his AEW World Championship. Jarrett was full of praise for the show as a whole but was particularly impressed with the new match, which he was convinced would be a success.
"I just sat there and looked at the players in the Clockwork Carnage, and I said, I think there's probably people that are not really sure because you've never seen it how it's going to play out. But when I kind of walked through it and thought it through, I'm like, this is going to steal the show," he said. "I thought that was fantastic."
Jarrett, a fan of new, innovative ideas in pro wrestling, likened the Clockwork Carnage match to one that he had a role in creating, the King of the Mountain match, which was a staple in TNA Wrestling.
"I love innovative. I love trying new things. I love having the audience get engaged at a different level," added Jarrett. "When you see that you can be eliminated and how it's drawn out, I just thought Clockwork Carnage exceeded everybody's expectations. I was really high on it going in. I think it can become a staple in so many ways. I just think the progression, I loved it. I can't help but say that when I think of a match with two stages, King of the Mountain [comes to mind]. [You have] Got to qualify and then you got to climb. And there was, you know, a lot of, uh, haters on that for years and years and years."
He reiterated his love for the new match type in AEW, although host Conrad Thompson had a differing opinion, stating that he wasn't a fan of the match and arguing that it shouldn't have main-evented a pay-per-view and should have been reserved for a TV special.
