AEW's Billy Gunn Shares Thoughts On His Children Following In His Footsteps
Billy Gunn has had the unique privilege of not just seeing both of his sons, Austin and Colten Gunn, follow in his footsteps and become full-time pro wrestlers, but he's even tagged alongside them and feuded against them in AEW. Gunn recently commented on his sons' wrestling careers during an interview with Inside The Ropes.
"Austin is my youngest, he is me amped up to about a thousand. Colten is not anywhere near me, but he is very [much] the opposite of me and Austin, in that he is very analytic," the veteran explained about his two sons personalities. Following this, he recounted how the betrayal angle from his sons that led to their rivalry came into play, with the boys attacking him with a chair, leading to Gunn joining The Acclaimed.
In spite of the chair shot, Gunn still expressed how proud he is of his sons and claimed that he legitimately thinks they're good wrestlers, and that he'd be honest if they were bad. "I wanted my kids to actually suck so they didn't do this job, but unfortunately..."
Even though he's happy with Austin and Colten in AEW, Gunn had prerequisites for them before giving his blessing to begin training, claiming his sons had to go study first. "Austin, the day he graduated, walked from the stage, up the balcony where I was sitting, handed me [his diploma], and goes, 'When do we start?' And I went, 'F***!'" he recalled.
"Colten, on the other hand, he was more put together, because he had his life planned out until he was 60, when he was gonna retire, and then it all went haywire for him, which was a total shock for me and Paula — Paula is my wife," Gunn added. "[Colten] came and said that he wanted to do it, and didn't want to have regrets, and then, f***, he was good at it, too."
