Backstage News On Planned WWE Celebrations For 30-Year Anniversary Of The Rock's Debut
WWE is reportedly set to honor 30 years of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in WWE this month by celebrating his debut at Survivor Series 1996. Johnson made his debut as Rocky Maivia alongside Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Marc Mero, and Barry Windham in a four-on-four Survivor Series match, where he was the sole survivor of the bout.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE is set to mark the occasion with merchandise, including a commemorative title belt, as well as a social media campaign centered around 30 years of The Rock. The outlet didn't confirm whether he will be making any appearance on television throughout the month of November, or at Survivor Series itself. The Bloodline, including World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, is expected to face off against 946 in a WarGames match at the event on November 28.
The last time WWE commemorated The Rock's debut anniversary, at Survivor Series 2021, the storyline did not go over well with fans. Johnson was nowhere to be seen at the event, either live or via pre-recorded "thank you" segment, and the show partially centered around backstage segments where Vince McMahon revealed he had "Cleopatra's golden egg" in his possession, a nod to The Rock's Netflix movie, "Red Notice," which had just debuted.
The egg was "stolen" during the event, and McMahon showed up on "WWE Raw" the next night to solve the mystery. It was revealed Austin Theory had stolen the egg, but the star still received a shot at the WWE Championship.
The Rock was last seen in WWE at Elimination Chamber 2025. He stood alongside John Cena and Travis Scott, as Cena turned heel on Cody Rhodes. While many fans expected him to show up at WrestleMania 41, The Rock revealed he chose to step back from the storyline.
