Cody Rhodes Comments On WWE Top Guys Being Older Than Ever Heading Into WrestleMania
WWE has several experienced stars at the top of the card, which Cody Rhodes has addressed, explaining why that's the case.
The top of the men's roster in WWE is dominated by a host of megastars, who have hogged the limelight over the last few years. Rhodes discussed this in a recent appearance on the "Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM," detailing how the golden era of the 80s had wrestlers between 35 and 42 years of age dominating the card.
"Well, it goes in phases. So, in like the golden 80s, we used to joke [that] wrestler prime for the man was 35 to 42 [years]," he said. "And that's because they needed all that experience psychologically. They worked. They did this town to town. Live crowds are everything. How do you work with a live crowd? How do you involve them with this?"
Rhodes brought it back to the present, recalling how more than a decade ago he was part of a motley crew of rising young wrestlers, referencing an infamous photo of him alongside CM Punk and Matt Cardona and the titles they were holding. He said that none of them knew what they were doing, but now, several years on, experienced stars like him, Punk, Randy Orton, and Roman Reigns are main eventing WrestleMania 42.
"That now has cycled back because a few years ago, they brought in, what I'd say is like all freshmen on a varsity team. There's this famous picture of me and CM Punk and Matt Cardona, and we're all babies, and we had won the big titles, but we didn't have a clue really at that point. We didn't have that experience," Rhodes added. "I know exactly who we're talking about here. Roman, me, Punk, Randy, the main events of WrestleMania. I just like to say it's a very experienced crew."
While the likes of Brock Lesnar, Reigns, Punk, Orton, and co. are ruling the roost, there are a few young upstarts, like Oba Femi, Bron Breakker, Dominik Mysterio, Trick Williams, and Carmelo Hayes, waiting in the wings to take their spot in WWE.
