Kenny Omega Grateful For AEW Homecoming Following Health Scare

Kenny Omega is set to challenge MJF for the Men's AEW World Championship at Dynasty after defeating Swerve Strickland to become the Number One contender. Dynasty will be on April 12 in Vancouver, Canada. This past Wednesday, Omega returned to his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba to compete in a trios match on "Dynamite".

Ahead of his match, Omega sat down with CBC News Manitoba. Omega has a well documented history since being diagnosed with diverticulitis and having to undergo surgery. He has discussed that it was nearly fatal. His health has been used in feuds, including during a promo by MJF on this week's "Dynamite". He noted that he hadn't been healthy before and was "it was a scary situation for me because I wasn't sure I was ever going to be in a position to ever do anything physical in the world of professional wrestling." Being on "Dynamite" was "like a celebration" because not only is he healthy, but he can wrestle.

"It was really important for me this time to be able to get in the ring – whether it's a title match, big match, small match – I just wanted to be able to perform. So to be able to perform and be confident in my health is a big win for me." He had a lot of family coming in with some coming from Calgary. He's always happy when they can come together "as one big cheering force."

Omega was on "Dynamite" three times. He had a contract signing for his match with MJF. He wrestled in a match following that segment and joined commentary for the main event when MJF wrestled Speedball Mike Bailey in a Title Eliminator Match.
