Becky Lynch & Finn Balor Look Back On First-Ever Women's WWE WrestleMania Main Event

Not many mentors get to work alongside their protégés after their training is complete. In Finn Balor's case, he got a front row seat of watching Becky Lynch go from an up-and-comer in the WWE to becoming one of three participants in the first-ever women's main event match at WrestleMania. During their joint interview on "Off The Ball," Balor spoke on Lynch's once-in-a-lifetime success, and what it means to him as her former trainer.

"She had this, like, aura when she walked into the gym at 15-years-old. You could tell that this girl's different than everybody else here, like boys included," Balor first said. "Just seeing her get into...rise to superstardom, and seeing her main event WrestleMania. Now, I'm starting to get a little bit emotional because it's just so inspiring for me to watch and have a front row ticket to watch her grow into this incredible star. I feel very, very lucky to be able to be so close to it."

Before diving into the highs and lows of her career, the former WWE Raw and SmackDown Women's Champion expressed great gratitude towards Balor for having what she called "patience of a saint" for not turning his back on her during her development. Prior to her big break in the WWE, Lynch stepped away from pro wrestling for seven years. As she mentioned in her interview, she felt defeated and beaten down over that decision. Luckily, something switched in her to come back into the wrestling fold. And when she did, she was ready to shatter any and all glass ceilings that stood in front of her and her former Four Horsewomen cohorts.

"The fact that I left for seven years and I came back at the time with the girls that I was with, with Sasha [Banks], with Charlotte [Flair], with Bayley, we all had this vision of where we wanted to go. We wanted to be treated like the lads," Lynch commented. "We wanted to be the main event stars. We didn't think that it should matter what gender we are. We just loved wrestling, and we wanted to be good at wrestling. We wanted to tell good stories. And thankfully, I did come in at that time...Everything we did was the first time ever...To have gotten to a point where that's not the case anymore, is really incredible."
