Matt Cardona Couldn't Be In WWE Unreal Season 1, Loves That He Can Be In It Now
Returning to the WWE after five years away as a free agent has been a dream come true for Matt Cardona. However, during his independent run, he was met with some difficult moments with the Stamford-based company prior to his signing. As part of the promotion's newest docuseries, "WWE Unreal" on Netflix, Cardona was not allowed to be in the same shots as his wife, WWE star and current Interim Women's Champion Chelsea Green, during the first season. Now, he gets to be. The former Intercontinental and United States Champion described those previous clashes with the production crew, and how happy he is to be part of this docuseries now.
"When Chelsea was doing 'Unreal' season one, I wasn't allowed to be in it," Cardona said on "The Wrestling Classic." "I'd come home and they'd be like, 'You can't be [here].' [I'd say] 'This is my kitchen. I'm cooking breakfast. Don't tell me where I can cook my breakfast.' I just got off a three-day indie loop, and they're like, 'Nah, you can't cook breakfast.' [I'd say] 'I'm cooking breakfast. Shoot around me.' So now, the fact that they're filming me and filming the toy room and filming my relationship between me and Chelsea, I love it."
On a different camera, back in the ring, Cardona was met with the indestructible force of GUNTHER on the August 14 edition of "WWE SmackDown," when he came out to defend his wife's honor. Green was informed prior to GUNTHER's interruption that she would not be stripped of the WWE Women's Championship despite being sidelined for the time being with a broken orbital bone.
