WWE's Chelsea Green Never Dreamed Of Becoming World Champion

After WWE Women's Champion Rhea Ripley was ruled out of SummerSlam last month due to a torn meniscus, a ladder match was made to determine who would become the Interim Women's Champion, and despite many fans believing she would never be given the opportunity to hold a top title, Chelsea Green defeated the odds and captured the gold. Over the past few years, Green has been one of WWE's most reliable workers, but many doubted that the promotion would actually make her world champion, especially after WWE producer Michael "P.S" Hayes claimed she wasn't a main event star. However, it seems like Green had doubts of her own, explaining on "Insight" that she didn't foresee herself ever winning a world title. 

"It's crazy because I never actually dreamt of that moment. And I feel like people wouldn't be surprised by that because they know that I've just been along for the ride. Like, it is what it is. Whatever happens, happens. I kind of let go of having strict goals within the parameters of pro wrestling a long time ago when I realized that I couldn't control anything, right? And so, then when this kind of fell into my lap in SummerSlam, I was like, 'holy s**t, I did it.' But I didn't even necessarily set out to do the thing and then I did the thing," she said. "For the first year of my career, I stressed out really hard. And then after 'Tough Enough' when I realized oh, what's meant to be will be and you can't control anything."

Green continued to explain that she cares deeply about her work ethic, the way she treats people backstage and how she interacts with fans, but puts less effort into thinking about her creative direction knowing she can't control the future of her character.
