Mickie James Details 'Emotional' Weekend Surrounding Nick Aldis' WWE In-Ring Debut

For years, Nick Aldis had dreamed of wrestling in a WWE ring. At SummerSlam 2026, he finally made it a reality when he took on "The Ring General" GUNTHER before an electric Minneapolis crowd, which included his son and wife Mickie James.

During an interview with "Wrestling Life Online," James opened up about the magical moment of seeing her husband, a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, finally make his mark inside WWE's squared circle. "It meant a lot to me, obviously meant so much to Nick, and meant an incredible amount to Donovan," James said. "Obviously, that weekend and that moment alone, it was everything leading up to that moment. It was watching this dream come true for a young Nick Aldis who first had that dream to step into a WWE ring and for it to happen now, it's never too late. You just never know how things are going to happen.

"I couldn't have thought of more of a storybook moment for this to happen for him," she continued. "But even leading up to that, as Nick was training to get ready for this, Donovan was going to the gym with him and documenting all his workouts and all this other stuff side by side. It was this real father and son bonding ... It was just so much, and it was emotional."

When James is at wrestling events, she usually competes herself. On this occasion, though, she saw the action from the other side of the barricade, something she described as a unique and special experience made even sweeter by her son sitting right next to her.

Aldis ultimately tapped out to GUNTHER's sleeper hold at SummerSlam, meaning his WWE in-ring record now stands at 0-1. Still, his efforts managed to impress fans, pundits, and backstage officials.
