Last March, popular AAA wrestler Nino Hamburguesa was fired after a video went viral of him getting into a physical altercation with a fan at an independent show. According to a report from "Wrestling Observer Network" at the time, the fan had laughed at the former World Mixed Tag Team Champion when he slipped and fell. Hamburguesa sat in the fan's lap and hit him with several back elbows. Eight days after the incident, Hamburguesa was fired. Prior to WWE acquiring AAA, Hamburguesa likely would not have been fired for his actions.

At the time of his firing, people backstage at AAA weren't happy because they thought Hamburguesa was a good, hard worker. On Night Two of TripleMania, Hamburguesa returned to AAA in the 15-man Copa Bardahl. In the latest "Wrestling Observer Radio", Dave Meltzer stated that "everyone knew he would be back because everyone liked him. They felt like they had to fire him because they felt like they had to send a message to everybody that you can't elbow fans in the face."

Bryan Alvarez noted that fans went crazy for Hamburguesa's return. Omos would eventually eliminate Hamburguesa to win the Copa Bardahl for the second year in a row.
