Former WWE & AEW Star Jake Hager Undergoes Emergency Eye Surgery Following Power Slap
For those who suffer from hemophobia, you might want to look away from the headlines on Jake Hager's recent eye injury, as the photos/recap posts made about it are not for the faint of heart. This past Thursday at Power Slap 23, the former AEW and WWE star was on the receiving end of a very graphic slap that required him to undergo emergency eye surgery.
Patricia Blackburn, Hager's partner, provided an update on Hager, while also asking the public to respect their privacy at this time: "Thank you to the UFC and Power Slap family for the incredible love and support you've shown Jake during this difficult time. Jake is currently recovering from an emergency eye surgery. We're taking things one day at a time and keeping the details private, but your kindness, support, and genuine concern have meant more than you know. Thank you for being there for Jake. We're so grateful to be part of a community that shows up when it matters most."
At Power Slap 23 in Lubbock, Texas, Hager faced independent wrestler Johnny Magna. It was during their second round where Magna connected a brutal slap on Hager that produced blood to come out of his left eye. Though Hager's team tried to call for a foul, officials dismissed it, and gave the victory to Magna (via referee stoppage).
Hager, a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and one of the former pinnacle faces in AEW's Inner Circle, joined Dana White's Power Slap promotion this past March. The semi-retired pro wrestler has obtained one victory in this sport so far.
