Former WWE & AEW Star Jake Hager Suffers Gruesome Injury On PowerSlap

They say everything is bigger in Texas. And for former AEW and WWE standout Jake Hager, he was on the receiving end of not only a huge loss, but he came out of it severely injured at Power Slap 23 in Lubbock, Texas.

On Thursday, Hager stood across from Johnny Magna, who also comes from a pro wrestling background (NWA New Mexico). In the second round of their slap fest, Magna connected a powerful hit that left Hager stunned and bleeding by the left side of his face and eye. Hager and his team tried to claim to officials that the hit towards his eye should have been ruled as a foul; however, officials dismissed the call and awarded Magna the victory via referee stoppage in the second round. Replays from their contest were not shown during the live broadcast, due to the severity of Hager's injuries.

Hager joined Dana White's Power Slap promotion this past March. He won his debut in April, but has since taken two back-to-back losses, with his most recent against Amanpreet Singh (also known as pro wrestler Mahabali Shera) in July.

Though he did confirm his retirement from pro wrestling, Hager returned to the squared circle in June, as part of WWC's 53rd Anniversario show in Puerto Rico. He participated in two matches: the first for the WWC Caribbean Championship, where he fell to then champion, John Hawking. And the other in a singles non-title loss against Alberto El Patron (formerly known as WWE star Alberto Del Rio).
