AEW's Thekla Says Mercedes Mone's 'Dumb Blonde' Jab Was Directed At Someone Else

Thekla has responded to Mercedes Mone's recent comments aimed at her, which the AEW star said were meant for someone else and not her.

Mone and Thekla have been going at each other for a few weeks, with the latter chasing the former's AEW Women's World Championship. In one of their heated promos on the September 9 edition of "AEW Dynamite," Mone attacked Thekla on the mic, questioning whether a five-foot blonde could intimidate her, which Thekla has now clarified to "TMZ's Inside The Ring" was not meant for her.

"Well, first of all, I don't think she was actually talking at me and I think everybody knows that," she said. "So, I'm not even taking that personally. So you can think whatever you want."

In the promo, Mone told her rival that she can be as toxic as she wants, saying that she has dealt with egotistical people throughout her career. The AEW Women's World Champion then uttered the "five-foot dumb blonde" line, asking her if a dumb blonde who doesn't love wrestling can scare her. While she was addressing Thekla, many felt that it was a jibe at her former WWE colleague, Alexa Bliss, with whom she reportedly had real-life heat. Bliss' nickname is also "Five Feet of Fury," which has further fueled speculation that Mone's comments were directed at the WWE star.

Mone and Thekla have yet to face each other in singles competition and have, in fact, been on the same side both times they have shared the ring, teaming in multi-woman tag team matches. However, a match between them could happen soon, as Thekla and Willow Nightingale — the two former champions — will face off at All Out to determine the #1 contender for Mone's title.
