Mason Rook Not Cleared To Compete On WWE NXT, Grayson Waller Will Still Defend Title

"WWE NXT" star Mason Rook is not medically cleared to compete in his NXT Championship match against Grayson Waller Tuesday night, but the champion will still be defending his gold.

Emily Agard broke the news in a video posted to the "NXT" X (formerly Twitter) account just after 5 p.m. EST. Both Agard's video and the post urged fans to stay tuned to WWE's social media for any further updates. It wasn't immediately clear if Rook was actually injured, or he's just not medically cleared in storyline.

Rook and Waller went face-to-face in a promo battle last week to end the episode of "NXT." Rook won the number one contendership by first being part of the team that won a six-man tag team bout, alongside Saquon Shugars and Tony D'Angelo. The following week, Rook won a triple threat match against Shugars and D'Angelo to earn the opportunity to challenge Waller.

WWE did not announce Waller's new challenger in the social media post. It will be his first defense of the NXT Championship on television since he won the title at "NXT" Heatwave in a four-way match against D'Angelo, Cruz Montana, and Zilla Fatu.

Rook's last match took place at a house show on September 19. He teamed up with Hank Walker and Tank Ledger in a loss to BirthRight's Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo, Lexis King, and Uriah Connors. He challenged Waller for the title at another house show on September 11.
