AEW's Will Ospreay Thinks A Match With This Former WWE Star Would Draw 'Big Money'

Will Ospreay is lining up many dream matches after winning the AEW World Championship, one of which he feels would be a great clash is against a former WWE star. 

Since winning the title at All In, Ospreay has defended it once, defeating former champion Jon Moxley at All Out. The English star believes those who step up to him have to earn the right to face him, and feels that former WWE wrestler Ilja Dragunov would make for a great opponent.

"I mean, Dragunov was someone that performed on wXw for a fair bit of time, and we've been on the same shows together, but we have never shared a ring with one another," he began when speaking on "The Takedown on SI." "Hearing that there's a potential that he is coming in is exciting because I'm sure if you bring him in and you keep us on separate sides of the roster and build us both up, it could generally be like a big money draw in singles match like that could main event any show anywhere in the world. And I think that's something that excites me about wrestling someone like him because of his experience and how long I've known him."

Ospreay stated that he has known Dragunov for a long time but hasn't had a conversation with him, while expressing admiration for his wrestling style. The English star added that he admires the former WWE star's intensity, which sets him apart from the rest.

"As a performer, I think there isn't many people that can bring the level of intensity that he does. I think he has a crazy ability to be able to make anyone that he is wrestling perform on the same intensity that he does," he said.

The AEW World Champion added that not many wrestlers on the AEW roster can match Dragunov's intensity. A match with Dragunov could be in Ospreay's future, but for now, Ospreay has to focus on facing Kazuchika Okada, whom he will wrestle at Grand Slam France on October 6, 2026.
