WWE HOFer JBL Reacts To AAA TripleMania: Lucha Is Taking Over

WWE's acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide has provided more exposure to the Lucha style when it comes to the mainstream American audience. Shows like the recent Worlds Collide have even put NXT talent up against AAA stars, and this year's AAA TripleMania received a lot more attention than previous iterations because of the WWE partnership. WWE Hall of Famer and current AAA announcer John "Bradshaw" Layfield spoke about the company's current state on his podcast, "Something to Wrestle."

"We've always thought that if Lucha started taking over, it would take over, and I think that's what you're seeing right now," JBL said. He went on to praise both nights of TripleMania, including the Copa Bardahl Battle Royal, and noted how Omos seems to really be coming into his own on AAA under The Undertaker's tutelage, especially compared to his time in WWE. "There's a lot of great producers that are down in AAA, some incredible guys that have some really good knowledge about what Omos needs to do; but also, what everybody needs to do there."

Being there ringside at both nights, JBL compared the crowds in Las Vegas to Mexico City. "As great as the Vegas crowds were — and it was good — it's nothing compared to a Mexican crowd," he stated. JBL noted how the Mexican crowds stand out globally for how passionate the fans in attendance are. However, he still regards the Friday night in Vegas as successful, because the turnout ended up being three times what WWE expected.

Of the night, JBL specifically in on Daga, the leader of the Los Perros del Mal stable, expressing how much he reminds him of Eddie Guerrero.
