Sheamus Is Reportedly A Free Agent After WWE Contract Expiration
For the first time in 19 years, Sheamus is reportedly a free agent.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Sheamus, also known as "The Celtic Warrior," has officially hit the free agency market, meaning he is eligible to sign with whichever wrestling promotion he wants.
Word of Sheamus' impending WWE exit emerged in July 2026, with reports indicating that the sports entertainment juggernaut approached him with a restructured contract extension offer, which he ultimately declined. He then remained under his existing WWE deal until its expiration in the early fall.
Sheamus first joined WWE in 2007, and within two years, he became a WWE Champion by defeating John Cena. In what would be his last WWE match in November 2025, he found himself teaming with Cena and Rey Mysterio to take on The Judgment Day's Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and Finn Balor on "WWE Raw." Shortly after, he underwent shoulder surgery and was accordingly removed from "The Last Time Is Now" tournament.
Amidst his newfound free agency, Sheamus' next moves in the pro wrestling space have yet to be seen. Many within AEW, both on the executive and talent side, are reportedly interested in potentially bringing him aboard there, but as of now, no discussions have officially taken place.
In recent years, Sheamus' former WWE colleagues Ricochet, Adam "Edge" Copeland, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods have all joined AEW. Kingston and Woods made their AEW debuts just a few weeks ago at All In.
Prior to signing with WWE, Sheamus routinely wrestled on the European independent circuit.
