AJ Styles Has High Expectations For His Son Avery Styles: 'I'm A Little Hard On Him'
WWE legend AJ Styles has discussed his son Avery Styles' progress in pro wrestling, admitting that he is highly critical of his son's work.
Avery has followed in his father's footsteps, making his wrestling debut a few months ago and has already signed with TNA Wrestling, a promotion where his father made his name. Styles told Cody Rhodes on the "What Do You Wanna Talk About?" podcast that he has had to remind himself that his son is just starting his career.
"Well, I mean, I think I'm a little hard on him. I'm probably the worst. Because I'm sure some of the things he's like, 'I can't do anything right. Everything I do is wrong.' And it's because I expect it to be better. And I have to take a step back and remember what it was like for me. And if I would just go back and watch some of my old stuff, it was absolutely terrible. I'd realize that it just takes time," said Styles. "So I tryto say, 'Well, this was good and this was good,' and reserve the right to maybe don't tell him everything that was bad, which was a lot."
"The Phenomenal One" is eager for his son to experience different wrestling styles and promotions and learn from every experience. He thinks his son uses a lot of what he did in the ring but is confident that he will find his own style in due course.
"And listen, the biggest problem that a lot of people have right now is they end up being like someone else. And I know that he is doing a lot of my stuff, but in time, he will realize that he's able to do other stuff," said the Hall of Famer.
Avery's TNA debut will come in a high-profile match at the weekend's Bound for Glory pay-per-view, where he will compete with 19 other stars in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet match.
