The past few years of Jim Ross' career have been plagued with health problems that have seen the AEW commentator undergo a number of surgeries, procedures, and treatments. Back in August 2026, Ross underwent a surgery where had a shunt placed in his brain that forced him to miss AEW All In London 2026, but since then, there have been some complications that have led to Ross needing another surgery on his brain, which he confirmed on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

Ross wrote; "Getting another brain surgery Wednesday morning to address an issue with my shunt. Positive thoughts appreciated. Thanks"

The WWE Hall of Famer detailed what these complications have been like in recent weeks on his "Grilling JR" podcast, stating that he has been getting such bad headaches that he's had trouble sleeping. The only thing that Ross could compare the pain to would be someone who suffers from severe migraines and knew he needed it checked out as soon as possible.

Ross also revealed that he may also be dealing with another form of cancer as doctors recently found a spot on his kidney that could potentially be cancerous. He will be traveling to Oklahoma City in the coming days to see a specialist about his kidney and what steps he might need to take next. Since 2021, Ross has had cancer of the skin, hip, and colon, resulting in him missing several months and years of appearing in AEW. All of the surgeries have been a success to this point as Ross confirmed in the summer of 2025 that he was cancer free for the third time, which led to him getting to call the final two matches of the AEW All In Texas pay-per-view that July. At the time of writing, there is no timeframe on when he can return to AEW.
