The Mexican star nearly won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Reigns on the September 14, 2026, edition of "Raw." He pushed Reigns to the limit and learned a thing or two about his distinguished opponent while also promising to beat him one day.
"When I faced Roman Reigns in Mexico City, [it] was one of the best nights of my life for different reasons. But now I understand why he is the best wrestler in the universe," declared Penta to "WWE Now." "But something in my soul and something in my heart says to me, I can beat him. One day, I don't know when, but this [Money in the Bank briefcase] is the key [that] can open the big door, you know?"
Penta spoke about the match itself and how he gave everything he had to get the better of Reigns. Despite the loss, he said the night was special to him and one of the best of his life.
"A Penta Driver and two Mexican Destroyers and catch a big dive. So that's why a big surprise when I saw that, and felt that everything energy in the ring in Mexico City ... [it] was an amazing night in my life," he said. "All day in Mexico City was very special for me. The horse too in the street with all my Mexican people with me one day before, you know, September 15 is very important for Mexicans. So one day before, everything was perfect."
Penta's performance against Reigns seems to have impressed those backstage, with the Mexican star reportedly being primed for a push, as suggested by his win in the men's Money in the Bank match.
