Tony Khan Discusses Jay White & Jamie Hayter Missing AEW WrestleDream Due To Injuries
A number of AEW stars left All Out with injuries, and as a result, are now unable to compete at the company's next pay-per-view, WrestleDream. This includes former AEW World Tag Team Champion Christian Cage, who suffered a collapsed lung and multiple broken ribs during his three-way Ladder Match at All Out.
The Bang Bang Gang's Jay White and AEW Women's Tag Team Champion Jamie Hayter are also on the shelf after sustaining undisclosed injuries of their own. Hayter's forced AEW to pivot away from its original women's tag team plans for WrestleDream. On the WrestleDream media call, AEW CEO Tony Khan suggested that White also would have been involved in the October 17 PPV had it not been for his respective injury.
"Christian Cage and Pac, those are two of the most important people in the ring ever in AEW. They would have been very much involved in WrestleDream plans before, to say the least, in addition to other people that that have been out injured, including Jamie Hayter, Tag Team Champion, and Jay White, who was just fantastic, I thought, on the Tailgate Brawl, winning that match, and somebody I wanted to build from that," Khan said. "The network was thrilled with that, the viewership of the Tailgate Brawl. All Out sold better than last year. It was perfect timing for us to have a big pay-per-view. I thought the Tailgate Brawl was a lot of fun, the corporate synergy, as they said. To have Jay get hurt then, that was terrible too."
White reportedly got hurt in the midst of an eight-man tag bout on the Tailgate Brawl, which aired ahead of All Out's main show on September 26. He's expected to be out of action for up to two months.
Hayter Not Expected To Be Out Long
Hayter sustained her injury during a Chicago Street Fight in which she and Alex Windsor also defended the AEW Women's Tag Team Championships against Megan Bayne and Lena Kross. According to Khan, Hayter's injury is minor, with doctors advising her to wait an additional two weeks before returning to the ring.
"Again to have a world tag team champion, like Jamie Hayter, who has been a world champion and one of the best wrestlers and somebody that's been here from the very first year of AEW is really important to the locker room," Khan said. "Somebody I really respect a lot is Jamie Hayer. I really wanted Jamie Hater to be able to wrestle in the [WrestleDream] pay-per-view and the Brawling Birds to be able to keep their momentum going because I thought the Chicago Street fight was fantastic."
Following their successful outing at All Out, Hayter and Windsor, together known as The Brawling Birds, were slated to defend their tag team titles against Kris Statlander and Harley Cameron at WrestleDream. Due to Hayter's sideline stint, that title match has since been pushed back to a time and date yet to be announced.
In its place, AEW has confirmed that Bayne and Kross, the former AEW Women's Tag Team Champions, will take on The Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart and Skye Blue) on the WrestleDream pre-show. AEW Women's Champion Mercedes Mone will put her title on the line against The Sisters of Sin's ally, Thekla.
