Roman Reigns On Frustration With WWE In The 2010s: 'I Didn't Like What I Was Doing'
Having been a top star for WWE for more than a decade now, one would think that Roman Reigns would feel pretty good about how his WWE career has gone. And he does feel good about it when it comes to the last half decade plus or so. Before that, however, things are a bit more mixed as far as the "Tribal Chief" is concerned. In an interview with "notsam" to promote his new film "Street Fighter," Reigns was asked by host Sam Roberts when he felt he truly came together as a performer. It was then Reigns revealed some of his frustrations with his WWE run before the Bloodline storyline started.
"It didn't click until...it was honestly before COVID hit and I left, and I had dog food all over me," Reigns said. "It was just one of those situations where I just wasn't creatively...I just wasn't in line. I didn't like what I was doing, I didn't like the way I was portrayed. And it was just time to take complete ownership. And the proof is in the pudding."
Though Reigns gained popularity and success early on as one third of The Shield with Seth Rollins and AEW star Jon Moxley, he began to receive a more hostile reaction from fans as WWE attempted to make him a singles star. Despite becoming a multi-time World Champion between 2015 and 2019, Reigns' run at the time was considered polarizing, with many criticizing WWE's insistence at pushing him and some of his storylines. His feud with Baron Corbin towards the end of 2019/early 2020 earned particular ridicule, especially following an angle where Corbin and Dolph Ziggler covered Reigns in dog food.
