At WWE Bad Blood in 2024, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk had a heated Hell in a Cell match, where both men made extensive use of various weapons, resulting in plenty of blood. Leading up to the match, the rivalry became increasingly personal, making the stakes feel genuine. So much so that McIntyre boldly believes his Hell in a Cell match rivals the first-ever iteration of the match between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels at WWE Badd Blood 1997.

"From a story perspective, from a match perspective, I'll argue all day: it's one and two between us and 'Taker and Shawn, the first ever Hell in a Cell," he proclaimed during an appearance on "The Hall of Fame" podcast. McIntyre argued that his clash with Punk deserves such high praise because of the nature of their relationship, asserting yet again that he genuinely hates "The Second City Saint."

McIntyre argued that, in the end, rather than Punk defeating him fair and square, it was something else that did him in. "I lose to blood loss, not CM Punk, 'cause he can't beat me on his best day," he said. "17 staples in my head!"

It wasn't only McIntyre who has praised by the showing, as the bloody match also impressed many others, like Eric Bischoff. During an episode of his podcast, he praised McIntyre's performance in the match, specifically how he conveyed emotion. Bischoff also highlighted the story and the emotion surrounding it, while also praising the match production and blood utilization throughout.
