WWE HOFer JBL Reflects On Friendship With Savio Vega
Reflecting on his first program with Savio Vega at WWE SummerSlam 1996, John "Bradshaw" Layfield may have been his enemy on-screen, but in real life, the Hall of Famer is delighted by their 30-year long friendship. JBL spoke highly of his friend, and even recounted Vega's prominent nickname that carried with him throughout his WWE career.
"I had a great relationship with Savio," JBL said enthusiastically on "Something to Wrestle." "Savio was my trial match, just happened by happenstance...You couldn't ask for a better person to wrestle with then Savio. Savio was an incredible worker. I don't know anybody who's ever had anything bad to say about Savio...Hunter [Triple H] used to call him 'bumblebee' because bumblebees aren't supposed to be able to fly. And Savio would get up at the top rope...Savio could actually fly, and he's like the bumblebee. He could do things that physics said that he shouldn't do."
Today, JBL and Vega work close at hand with one another, as both of them are part of WWE's sister promotion, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. Vega acts as one of its producers, while also serving as one of its color commentators and translators alongside JBL.
