Dave Meltzer: WWE Crown Jewel Is Going Forward In Riyadh Unless Something Big Happens
As we get closer to November 7 and more travel warnings come from the U.S. government, wrestling fans wonder if WWE will actually go through with holding their Crown Jewel PLE in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. TKO's Ari Emmanuel recently said they are monitoring the situation daily, but "nothing has been canceled". Keeping the show in Riyadh provides a large financial incentive for TKO along with making sure they keep WrestleMania 43 in the city, according to Dave Meltzer.
On "Wrestling Observer Radio," Meltzer discussed the ongoing situation. "Unless something happens, catastrophic, between now and next Tuesday, they're going," he explained.
Meltzer also touched on the upcoming Canelo Álvarez boxing match scheduled for this weekend. He stated that many of those involved flew into Bahrain before driving five hours to Riyadh, and the people that Meltzer has heard from have relayed that the security has been great.
Asked by a listener, Meltzer shared his belief that it's possible Nick Khan could make the trip over to Riyadh with WWE, but he doesn't envision Ari Emanuel or TKO's Board of Directors attending. "Ari is the one making the choice and he's probably too busy to go, unless he's got some meetings there. I doubt he would go. I mean, I don't know if Nick would go or not and it's immaterial, it's not his choice. ... Vince wasn't on the plane with the rest of them, either, when they were held hostage. He got out of town on his own plane."
Meltzer had previously pointed out some of WWE's talent was "held hostage" but they returned to Saudi Arabia a few months later. He also stated that WWE went into war zones for "Tribute to the Troops" shows under Vince McMahon's leadership.
