AEW's Adam Copeland: Wrestling In Maple Leaf Gardens Was More Important Than Wembley
AEW's Adam Copeland has explained how wrestling at Maple Leaf Gardens has meant more to him than wrestling at any other venue.
Copeland is winding down his legendary career and has ticked off many items on his pro wrestling bucket list, one of which was wrestling at Maple Leaf Gardens, a venue where he watched many wrestling shows in his youth. After wrestling at the venue for Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, the AEW star looked back fondly on the experience and reflected on how much it meant to him while speaking to Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling's YouTube channel.
"For me, this [Maple Leaf Gardens] was easily the most important venue for me to wrestle in, over any other, over Wembley Stadium, over any of them," said Copeland. "Maple Leaf Gardens has always been my one place that I wanted to get to. And here we are today. No, I never thought I'd wrestle in Maple Leaf Gardens. Between the fact that I had retired for nine years, and then even once I got my career back, just with the landscape of what wrestling is and where I was working, Maple Leaf Gardens was a pipe dream. I thought if I were going to ever wrestle there, I'd have to run my own show."
The dream of wrestling at the venue that holds so many great memories for him seemed within reach once he joined AEW. He said that Scott D'Amore, former TNA president and owner of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, played a key role in helping him realize that dream.
"And then Scott D'Amore and I, we started talking and realized, 'Wait, this is now a possibility now that I'm with AEW. We could actually do this,'" he said.
Copeland announced that 2027 will be his final year in wrestling, and he seems to have wrestled at every venue he has dreamed of, with the Tokyo Dome potentially being the only one left.
