GCW Promoter Reveals Scrapped Plans For Bloodsport Match Featuring WWE's Chad Gable
Former Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable was set for a Bloodsport debut that never ended up happening, according to Brett Lauderdale. The GCW promoter took to social media to reveal the planned match-up, in a post that has since been deleted.
Lauderdale revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Gable was meant to face former ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham at Bloodsport X in 2024. While Lauderdale deleted the post from his X account, with no mention of why, both F4WOnline and Fightful quoted the post directly.
"It was supposed to be Chad Gable vs Jonathan Gresham and it would have been one of the greatest matches of all time lol," Lauderdale wrote, as noted by both outlets. "But alas wwe changed course at the last minute because chad wanted to focus on wrestlemania (which i understand) It ended up being a landmark event regardless"
A graphic advertising Gable for the show made the rounds on social media. While Gable didn't officially have a match at WWE WrestleMania 40 that year in Philadelphia, he was involved in the Intercontinental Championship storyline involving Sami Zayn and GUNTHER. Gable and Zayn were seen together in a backstage segment before the bout on night one, where Zayn captured the title.
Barnett announced, just ahead of WrestleMania 42, that Bloodsport would be going on indefinite hiatus after Bloodsport XV in Las Vegas. In his announcement, he noted that he wasn't putting the event "six feet under with a gravestone," but was putting things on hold for the foreseeable future.
