Brian Gewirtz Brings Up Reason The Rock May Not Return To WWE

With WrestleMania 39 going Hollywood once again in 2023, many keep wondering whether big-name Hollywood actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be appearing at The Show of Shows. Johnson has recently declared who the real "Head of the Table" is, as a potential showdown between him cousin Roman Reigns continues to gather hype. But few know Johnson better than Brian Gewirtz, the former "WWE Raw" head writer-turned-executive at Seven Bucks Entertainment, Johnson's production company, and speaking recently on NBC Sports Boston's "Ten Count," Gewirtz admitted that he didn't see a WWE return for The Rock as a clear-cut decision.

"I have no idea, I really don't," Gewirtz said. "All I know is if and when Rock comes back to WWE, the bar he always sets ... the expectation level is so high, and this audience-first mentality that is very, very real, it needs to match it. It needs to be something gigantic, and not just something like 'Oh that's a nice attraction.'"

Additionally, Gewirtz notes, Johnson is a very busy man, with multiple projects already on the horizon.

"The fan in me would love to see it if it's the right circumstance," Gewirtz added. "But he certainly has a lot of stuff going on, between this gigantic movie coming out in October, our Tales from the Territory show now."

And even if Johnson isn't in the midst of film production come early April, that doesn't mean he's not putting his time and energy into something else.

"I saw like an internet report at one point saying, The Rock's not shooting any movies in February," Gewirtz continued. "I don't know if he is or not, but he is launching a gigantic football league [the XFL], so that might take some time, too."
