Chad Gable Promises To 'Return The Favor' To Mexican Fans With WWE Raw Title Defense
This past May, the highly anticipated clash between the Original El Grande Americano and El Grande Americano overdelivered in a Mask vs. Mask match at AAA Noche de Los Grandes, resulting in a standing ovation from the crowd in attendance. After failing to pick up the win, the Original El Grande Americano revealed himself to be Chad Gable, which kickstarted the Olympian's recent babyface run and led him to win the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam. Tonight, Gable returns to Mexico when "WWE Raw" is held from Arena CDMX, and in a new post on Instagram, he promised to repay the fans for their support in his title defense against Dragon Lee.
"I received something from the Mexican people on May 30th that I will never forget. Tonight, I'm walking back in for the first time – as champion. And I'm going to return the favor. I will defend the Intercontinental Title on RAW in Mexico City for the first time in its history. See you tonight, amigos."
So far, the Mask vs. Mask contest at AAA Noche de Los Grandes is widely considered one of the best matches of the year. While Gable returned to "Raw," El Grande Americano, formerly known as Ludwig Kaiser, has continued to wrestle in Mexico and just became the AAA Mega Champion this past weekend when he defeated Dominik Mysterio for the title at TripleMania 34.
Gable has held the Intercontinental Championship for 43 days and has just one successful title defense to his name so far, which came against Rey Mysterio on "Raw." However, Gable doesn't have a short list of challengers, as Ethan Page and The Judgment Day have continued to target the champion in the weeks leading up to his match against Lee.
