WWE's Chelsea Green Says Injury Helped Her Bounce Back From 'Lame' SmackDown Promo
WWE Women's Champion Chelsea Green has spoken about her injury and how it was a blessing in disguise.
Green won the title at SummerSlam, but just a week later, she suffered an orbital bone injury. The former Women's Intercontinental Champion believes that the injury and the promo she cut on "WWE SmackDown" GM Nick Aldis after he told her that she may have to vacate the championship helped elevate her.
"It was definitely bigger than whatever was going to come. I think we all felt where it was going that week after SummerSlam, where I had a very lame promo. And it kind of led into a couple of, like, lame moments, but then that broken orbital bone, like, it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me because of that promo," she said to "Notsam Wrestling."
Green looked back at her career and noted how she has had many "make or break" moments, with that promo being one of them. She revealed Aldis helped her with that promo and another one a few weeks later, detailing the emotions that they wanted the audience to be taken through.
"When has anything ever just, like, been handed to me and I'm able to [take it to the next level] –never," Green said. "I'm very, very thankful for Nick Aldis because he helped me write that one, and he helped me write the follow-up a couple weeks later, and it hit because we were able to go through the emotions and, like, the change of pace and, what's the ride that we want to take them on? Like, what's the end goal, but how do we get there, making them think that this is, you know, we're going to take it off me because I think that's the crucial moment in that promo."
Green said that she doesn't like the traditional style of pro wrestling promos and has always strived to break the trend and make them feel more real.
