Backstage Update On AEW Star Maya World's Injury Status

Former TBS Champion Maya World was last seen on AEW television on "AEW Dynamite: Rebel Heart" on September 9, and it was revealed the following week that the star is currently out of action. According to a new report, World is believed to be on the shelf for a while.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the belief is that World will be out of action for "a couple of months." Fightful previously reported that World underwent a procedure. On Friday, the outlet reported that the procedure wasn't related to an in-ring injury.

World, tag team partner Hyan, and Thunder Rosa were defeated by Britt Baker, Persephone and Hikaru Shida on "Dynamite." World also lost her TBS Championship to Persephone, who also holds the CMLL World Women's Championship, at AEW All In London. Rosa and Hyan seem to be continuing the story with Baker and Persephone, as they'll face the heels in tag team action on "Dynamite" from Baker's native Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

The "It Girl" had been on a hot streak in AEW before the procedure. Before winning the TBS Championship, she advanced to the finals of the 2026 Women's Owen Hart tournament, where she faced Mercedes Mone at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. World was added to the tournament as a replacement for the injured Sareee.

World and Hyan were signed to AEW back in December 2025, after stepping in at the last minute for a match on "AEW Collision." Following the quick two-minute bout, the pair would go on to face then-AEW Women's Tag Team Champions Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale before officially becoming "All Elite."
