Chad Gable has looked back on the difficult periods he has experienced in WWE and how his current success makes the struggles worth it.

Gable was saddled with a few tough gimmicks during his time in WWE, with the most noticeable being Shorty G. But the Intercontinental Champion has clawed his way to a title after years, and he explained in an interview with "Complex Graps" how he has always asked for more opportunities in WWE, even if they weren't what he wanted.

"I always wanted opportunities. I was never really given them outright. So when I'm asking, when I go to the right people in the past and I'm asking for opportunities, basically to the point almost where I'm begging for opportunities — this is years ago now at this point — so if I'm given one after begging or asking or whatever, I better make damn sure and like do my part to deliver on that. You know, whether or not it's exactly what I wanted or looked for, that's out of my hands," he said.

Gable said he has always been willing to work hard with whatever chances he has been given, even if what's offered to him isn't what he had hoped for. He believes that having navigated tough periods during his WWE career makes the success he has been getting lately even more special.

"But what kind of makes all this stuff now that's happening even more special is the fact that we got through some of those, like whatever you want to call them, valleys or low points, and came out the other side here in what I would say is like I'm enjoying the fruits of my labor now and all of that of getting through that stuff. So, it's really rewarding at this point," he added.

The Olympian also laid out his plans for his reign as Intercontinental Champion, stating that he hopes to do something special with the title and surprise the audience.
