Scotty 2 Hotty Recalls Stone Cold Steve Austin Taking Him To Doctor's Appointment
During the heyday of Too Cool, Scotty 2 Hotty was not a wrestler many would think would need to have major neck surgery one day. And yet, that's exactly what happened to the wrestler turned AEW producer. During an appearance on "Insight with Chris Van Vliet," Van Vliet asked Scotty about the scar on his neck. It was then the former WWE Tag Team Champion revealed that he didn't just have neck surgery, he needed to have fusion neck surgery.
"I had cervical fusion by Dr. Youngblood in San Antonio," Scotty said. "Stone Cold went first, and then everybody [went]. Edge went, Lita went, Bob Holly, Benoit went...I think that Angle may have ended up going, but I don't think so. But there were a bunch of us. Yeah, cervical fusion. 5, 6, 7."
Scotty confirmed that the surgery wasn't required because he had broken his neck, but because the discs in his neck were in terrible shape. He also revealed that, had he opted to fuse four levels of his neck instead, it would've ended his wrestling career, leading Scotty to opt for the lesser fusion. Through it all, Scotty received plenty of support from Stone Cold Steve Austin, especially during the lead up to the surgery.
"Actually, Austin went to my first doctor's appointment with me, which is wild," Scotty said. "I remember him being in the room before the doctor came in and he takes the x-rays out of the envelope, he sits them on the table...turns on the light, and he starts looking at them and goes, what was the line, 'I'm not a doctor, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.' But how cool is that that he went with me to that? So cool man."
