TKO's Ari Emanuel Comments On Status Of WWE Crown Jewel In Saudi Arabia
WWE is moving ahead with holding Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia despite the enormous risks it's taking in doing so.
The show is scheduled for November 7 and will take place amidst an ongoing conflict with the Houthis that has recently targeted several airports in Saudi Arabia, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. The U.S. government recently ordered its diplomats and their families to leave the country as it also advises Americans not to travel to Saudi Arabia.
TKO's Ari Emmanuel appeared on Fox News on Thursday to confirm that "everything's all set" with holding the show in Saudi Arabia. UFC has an upcoming show in Abu Dhabi that's still scheduled to take place.
"Nothing's been canceled. (...) We have a whole team kind of working on this and if that doesn't happen, where we can move it. It's a daily monitoring," Emmanuel stated.
WWE will be taping the "SmackDown" before Crown Jewel on November 2, following the episode of "Raw" that will air at 6 PM ET. That show will take place at the Barclays Center in New York. On November 9, "Raw" will emanate from Columbia, South Carolina.
Two matches have already been announced for Crown Jewel. Dave Meltzer explained that TKO has a financial incentive to hold the show as scheduled in Riyadh. He also said they risk losing WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh if they move Crown Jewel.
