WWE Reportedly Considered Different Date In February For Royal Rumble 2027
WWE had reportedly toyed with the idea of hosting Royal Rumble 2027 later in February, before settling on February 6.
Royal Rumble, which has traditionally been held in January, was moved to February in 2025, and that will also be the case for the next edition. However, WWE reportedly had plans to host the event later in the month, on February 20, according to "Fightful Select."
Sources within WWE told the outlet that the idea behind the proposed date was to capitalize on the Super Bowl, which will be held a week earlier, on February 14. The football extravaganza will air on ESPN, with the Royal Rumble also set to air on the network, giving WWE additional exposure through the Super Bowl.
WWE's event could have been promoted during Super Bowl week, as well as during the Super Bowl broadcast. However, WWE reportedly changed its plans for a few reasons, one of which was that the Royal Rumble host city, Phoenix, Arizona, would also be hosting NBA All-Star Weekend from February 19 to 21. The other reported reason was that holding the Royal Rumble so late in the month would have affected WWE's entire calendar.
WWE is rumored to be holding WrestleMania 43 on April 10 and 11, 2027, which would have left the company with just seven weeks between the Royal Rumble and 'Mania had the former taken place on February 20. The Royal Rumble's February 6 date means WWE and AEW will have their respective pay-per-views that weekend, with AEW's Dynasty pay-per-view set to take place in Liverpool, England, on February 7.
