Kevin Nash Identifies Recent WWE Match That Made Him Lose Interest In Wrestling
WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has discussed how a recent match has soured his view of modern wrestling.
Nash recently spoke about Vince Russo's departure from Juggalo Championship Wrestling on his "Kliq This" podcast, which led to a discussion about modern-day wrestling and how the philosophies he and Russo hold may differ from those of current wrestlers and promoters. He then delved into how the style of pro wrestling has evolved significantly since his days, which he feels has been for the worse, criticizing the recent clash between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
"I think the problem is the business turned more and more high spot and less and less psychology, and it's like 12 minutes of high spots. That's it for me. I'm done," said Nash. "I think that match that Roman and Seth had when the ref went down and they basically no-sold each other's finishes for five minutes. I don't think I've come back. Like, I haven't come back to wrestling because you can't drop a nuclear bomb on the Hulk and then tell me two issues later that the leader can take control of his mind. Like, you take me too far one way and I'm gone."
The match that the nWo star referred to took place at SummerSlam in August, where Reigns defeated his former friend to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. As has been the case in some high-profile WWE matches in recent years, the referee took a bump during the match after Reigns landed a spear. The two traded finishers throughout the match, with Rollins hitting multiple Pedigrees and Stomps to no avail, while Reigns had to hit three Spears to secure the win.
While Nash was critical of the Rollins-Reigns match, he has praised a few other recent matches in WWE, including the match between CM Punk and Bron Breakker from the start of the year, which he called a "special piece of booking."
