Former WWE & AEW Star Jake Hager Reportedly Undergoes Second Eye Surgery
Following a gruesome injury suffered during a Power Slap event at the end of September, former WWE and AEW star Jake Hager, once known as Jack Swagger, has reportedly undergone a second eye surgery. The athlete took a brutal slap during the second round of his match-up against Johnny Magna that left him bleeding from his left eye.
According to Slap News on Instagram, citing Hager's fiancé, Patricia Blackburn, Hager underwent the second surgery to repair a detached retina that was discovered during follow-up appointments after his first emergency surgery.
"He underwent urgent surgery to reattach it, which doctors said went better than expected," the Slap News post read.
The star went down with injury at Power Slap 23 in Lubbock, Texas. Hager's team tried to have Magna's hit ruled a foul, as the slap neared his eye, but Hager's opponent was awarded the victory due to referee stoppage.
Hager revealed he was retired from professional wrestling, following his run in AEW that ended in 2024, in August 2025. He has wrestled two matches since the announcement, the most recent being a June loss to Alberto El Patron at a World Wrestling Council event. At the time of his retirement announcement, he revealed he was running his own trucking company around Florida.
The former Bellator fighter joined Dana White's Power Slap promotion in March. He made his debut at Power Slap 19 in April 2026. He knocked out Devin Jenkins in the third round. Since his signing, Hager is 1-2, including the second-round loss to Magna.
