WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair Talks Situation Around Hulk Hogan Death, Family & Funeral
Ric Flair has discussed Hulk Hogan's passing and reports of medical malpractice that led to "The Hulkster's" death.
Flair revealed to football star Johnny Manziel that he spoke to Hogan a day before his death and discussed the allegations of negligence against Hogan's doctors.
"Well, I talked to him the day before, and he was fine, man. Now the whole thing is breaking down. They think that he was, you know, taking illegal prescriptions or that a doctor was overprescribing. And I mean, you never know what to believe anymore. So, I'm not quoting what I know for a fact, I'm just telling you that if you Google 'Hogan,' his daughter's upset. I mean, the family is divided, and there's nothing worse," he said.
Flair went on to state that Hogan's death gave him anxiety, as it dawned on him what had happened to his friend, having spoken to him a day before his death. He believes that "The Hulkster" shouldn't have been operated upon, after it was learnt that he had leukemia.
"It literally gave me anxiety for a week that Hogan died. I just talked to him. But a lot of people don't realize he'd had eleven back operations, both hips replaced, both knees replaced, one shoulder replaced, and that shoulder got infected and caused a heart issue," said Flair. "And now he was just getting the second of two neck surgeries when they found out he had leukemia. They never should have been operating on him with leukemia."
There hasn't been much clarity about Hogan's leukemia diagnosis, with his daughter Brooke questioning the veracity of the information, while Hogan's friend Eric Bischoff was also unaware of it.
Flair on Hogan's funeral
Hulk Hogan's daughter, Brooke Hogan, who had cut ties with her father, was the first to bring to light some mysterious circumstances surrounding her father's death. Ric Flair further revealed on the podcast that Brooke had written him a letter — which he did not disclose the details of — that made him observe the behavior of certain people at Hogan's funeral. He also explained why some individuals didn't attend the funeral.
"His daughter wrote me a letter, so I knew about some stuff that was going on, and I can't share it with you because I'd be betraying her. I got the letter the day after he died from her, and I was just watching everybody," he said. "I mean, a lot of people [came], Kid Rock came, I mean, every wrestler — I think there were a lot of wrestlers who should have been there but didn't come. But that's, you know, everybody makes their own choices. He wrestled at a time when it was very political, and, you know, you had to stand up for yourself. It wasn't like now, where it's, 'Hey, it's this way or the highway.' You had to fight for your position in life, and he did. He made some enemies along the way, and I think those guys didn't show up."
Flair said that he noticed the actions of various people at the funeral, but didn't stay for the celebration that followed. "The Nature Boy" praised Hogan for his generosity, particularly when his late son had to go to rehab, with Hogan lending him money to pay for it.
