Lil Yachty Confirms He's Under Contract With WWE, Would Love To Wrestle Trick Williams

When working with WWE, most celebrities simply make one-off or sporadic appearances. Rapper Lil Yachty, on the other hand, has established himself as a regular fixture on WWE programming for several months now. According to Yachty himself, that is to be expected as he's been under WWE contract since about the time of WrestleMania 42.

During an appearance on "Insight With Chris Van Vliet," Yachty revealed that his journey into WWE began with a meeting in which he told the company's head of music Neil Lawi to keep him in mind for any working opportunities. Lawi later circled back with the idea of Yachty accompanying "WWE SmackDown" star Trick Williams to the ring for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Yachty agreed, but noted that he'd be willing to do much more, even if it meant traveling on his own dime.

"I didn't want to just pop up on WrestleMania," Yachty said. "I was like, 'A couple SmackDowns before, could I come to a SmackDown and introduce our friendship?'"

At that point, Yachty and Williams were familiar with one another, having met twice before. It wasn't until they exchanged direct messages and phone calls, however, that the two grew close. On-screen, Yachty emerged as a mouthpiece and manager for Williams, who headed into WrestleMania as the number one contender to the WWE United States Championship. Ahead of "The Show of Shows," WWE executive Bruce Prichard then approached Yachty with a major offer.

"WrestleMania came, and Bruce Prichard sat me down, the GOAT," Yachty recalled. "... Bruce sat me down in rehearsals, and first I thought I was in trouble. He pulled me aside and he was like, 'You're here more than I am. What would you say if you come on down and you be with the family?' I was like, 'What?' He offered me a contract, and I was just like, 'I actually did it.' I can't believe I actually did it. The goal you set, to achieve the goal is the goal. When he offered me a contract, I was like, 'Wow, this is f***ing awesome.'"

"I think it's the first time I publicly said it, on here, that I'm actually on contract," Yachty continued, reiterating his gratefulness for the opportunity. "I think people probably just thought I just loved it. I definitely don't think I've said that publicly. I think I'm the first rapper to get a contract, artist. Of course, they have people come in. I'm almost certain I'm the first artist on contract."

In early August, reports indicated that WWE officials and Yachty were in talks about a potential contract extension. Just days before, Yachty had accompanied Williams to his United States Championship defense against Baron Corbin at WWE SummerSlam. Williams dropped the title to the "Lone Wolf," then lost once more in their rematch on "SmackDown." Yachty, however, was brave enough to step up to Corbin in hopes of securing Williams another chance.

The Grammy-nominated rapper went on to face Corbin in his official in-ring debut at WWE Sunday Night's Main Event on September 6. If Yachty could survive five minutes in the ring with Corbin, Williams would have an immediate title shot right after. Fortunately for Williams, Yachty hung in there long enough, and by the end of the show's first hour, Williams was once again the WWE United States Champion.

Looking ahead, WWE fans continue to wonder if the Williams-Yachty alliance will eventually lead to them clashing with one another in the ring. As of now, that potential angle remains just an idea; Yachty has made it clear that he's open to it, though.

"On a serious note, [WWE] haven't said that," Yachty said. "But I don't know. I mean, bro, he's becoming one of my best friends. So I would love nothing more. He's a good guy. He wouldn't turn on me. I don't want to [turn on him]. I don't want to put that in the air, but..."
