AEW Star Rush Doesn't Believe He's Returning Any Time Soon: 'Maybe Next Year'
While his former Los Ingobernables stablemate Andrade El Idolo has been on the run of his AEW career, winning both the AEW National Championship and a future shot for the AEW Men's World Championship, Rush has been curiously MIA. And according to him, that may be the case for the foreseeable future. Taking X on Tuesday morning, Rush indicated as much while responding to a fan asking when he would be coming back to AEW.
"Maybe next year," Rush said.
It was just a few months ago that Rush was not only active, but seemingly on the best run of his AEW career. The LFI leader not only competed for the vacant TNT Championship at AEW Dynasty, but won nine state matches between AEW and Ring of Honor, including picking up wins over Anthony Bowens, Adam Priest, and Brian Cage, Orange Cassidy, and Lio Rush in a four-way match. The latter win would earn Rush a AEW Men's World Championship match against then champion MJF on the June 3 episode of "AEW Dynamite," with MJF picking up the win despite suffering a knee injury.
Despite the loss, Rush would make two more appearances on AEW TV, his last being a quick squash win on the July 1 episode of "Collision." The luchador has not been shy of commenting on his absence since then, at times blaming his lack of AEW appearances on their promotional partner CMLL. Rush had previously started his career with the lucha libre promotion, but has been person non grata with them since departing in 2018. The relationship between Rush and CMLL was further frayed due to Rush's involvement with the short-lived Federacion Wrestling promotion in 2021, and he has yet to appear in CMLL during his AEW tenure.
