Hunter has been getting a paid to daydream for over a decade. He founded the copywriting firm Cates Creates, LLC in 2018, the messaging consultancy firm, Cates Communicates, LLC in 2022, and the pop culture commentary site The Dumb Okie in 2022. In his advertising career, Hunter has written copy and developed campaigns for brands small, large, and VERY large, including Amazon, Intuit QuickBooks, Uber, Toyota Trucks, MetLife, Charles Schwab, Instacart, and the Charles Theron Africa Outreach Project. He started writing for Static Media in 2018, and has brought his eclectic tastes in (almost) all-things pop culture to work for Looper, Wrestling, Inc., and /Film.

Hunter has a bachelor's degree from the University of Tulsa.
