Expertise
AEW, WWE, Punk Rock + Pro Wrestling
  • She first became a wrestling fan by watching G.L.O.W. (the actual wrestling promo, not the Netflix series) – her favorites were Gremlina and Colonel Ninotchka.
  • She used to host a podcast called Quirky Cookbooks where several episodes featured her cooking recipes from Jim Ross's "Can You Take the Heat? The WWF Is Cooking!" and "J. R.'s Cookbook: True Ringside Tales, BBQ, and Down-Home Recipes" (not that she posed any threat whatsoever to Brian Zane and Kayfabe Kitchen).
  • One of her proudest writing accomplishments to date is managing to name-drop Macho Man Randy Savage 12 times, Chris Jericho 6 times, The Rock 5 times, Mick Foley and Andre the Giant 4 times, the Undertaker 3 times, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan 2 times, and Roddy Piper once (so far) in articles that are actually about food. She also wrote pieces about Batista, The Miz, and The Rock for The List.

Experience

Maria has a background as a librarian that gives her the research skills necessary to dig up obscure facts, but she started writing on the side as a broke single mom nearly 20 years ago. Two decades later, she remains a broke single mom, but at least she finally got to ditch the library gig and write full time. Over the years she's freelanced for print publications including two DC-area weekly newspapers, the Montgomery Journal and the Fairfax Times, as well as Northern Virginia Magazine where she was awarded a Virginia Press Association first place prize for personal service writing. She's also published numerous articles on websites including Realtor.com, Movoto, AZCentral, Livestrong, and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Maria began writing full time for Static Media in 2019 and one of her first pieces was a Grunge feature on Mick Foley (her son's favorite wrestler).

Education

Maria has a bachelor's degree in comparative literature from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Denver.
