Will Ospreay Confirms 'Discussions' About Other Opponents At AEW All In: London

Only a few days remain before Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega go at it for Omega's AEW Men's World Championship at AEW All In, and for many, it was a match destined to headline AEW's marquee show as far back as April. But thanks to many twists and turns along the way, it's also been a match that didn't seem a sure thing to happen. And without naming what the other options were, Ospreay himself confirmed, during an interview with TVInsider, that other opponents were considered for him at All In. Ultimately, though, Ospreay believes AEW wound up with the right match.

"There were definitely discussions that it could go into different directions," Ospreay said. "But I feel like the natural and the right choice was to go with myself and Kenny because we've been preaching to the world that this is where the best wrestle."

Calling him and Omega the two most influential wrestlers of the last several years, Ospreay used that as a starting point to compare how he vs. Omega would differentiate from the previous three matches that were in the position Ospreay and Omega find themselves in.

"You look at all the All In main events," Ospreay said. "You look at the MJF and Adam Cole match. That was kind of more humorous leading in than a sporting contest. It was more to engage the audience a certain way rather than a full sports contest. It served its purpose. Then it was the crowning of the greatest wrestlers who ever did it, Bryan Danielson against Swerve Strickland, and the story that they told there. Then it was the guts and the drive from Hangman Page to try and strip away Moxley's briefcase to reveal the AEW World Championship. This match, to me, two of the greatest wrestlers of this generation going head-to-head and finally finding out which one is the best."
